Promote the Public Input Hearings for Redistricting

Promote Public Input Hearings with maps of districts

The House Redistricting Committee has started holding public input hearings for the next round of redistricting.  We must alert our communities about these hearings, so that everyone has the chance to participate in our redistricting process.  Public comments at the hearings will be used to assist the Legislature when it draws district boundaries. Speaking up about your community is critical to ensuring district lines are drawn to keep your community whole and grouped with nearby communities with similar interests. This ensures that your voice is heard by your elected leaders across all kinds of government decisions.

We want our representatives to publicize these hearings to help get the word out to our communities. This outreach should include notifying their own constituents on social media and in newsletters, notifying local city and county officials in their area, as well as local press outlets. Announcements should be made in other languages where appropriate.  We also ask that constituents check to make sure that their elected officials are promoting these hearings in their areas.

We must work collectively to assure that our redistricting system does not fall short of what Americans are guaranteed by our Constitution.  These simple steps will build public trust and confidence.
